The MGS is proud to have been a sponsor of the 2019 YBRA Teacher Workshop, a 3-day excursion developed to provide teachers with additional guidance on teaching local geology in the classroom.
The itinerary in 2019 included:
Day 1: Investigation of Precambrian rocks of the Beartooth Plateau. Interpretation of landforms related to glacial erosion and deposition.
Day 2: Examination of exposed Phanerozoic strata of the Red Lodge area. Interpretation of depositional environments and deformation related to the Laramide Orogeny. Discussion of the mining of important natural resources in the region that resulted from these geologic events.
Day 3: Following an overview presentation of the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS), participants will work together in the morning to incorporate the examples of local geology from Days 1 and 2 into lesson plans for their classrooms. Workshop will conclude after lunch.
