The Montana Geological Society is a non-profit organization, founded in 1949 by a group of Billings-area geoscientists. The objectives of the society as stated in the bylaws are “to promote interest and research in geology and allied sciences and their practical application, and to encourage fellowship and cooperation among the members.” These objectives are met through field conferences, continuing education classes and the publication of guidebooks and symposia. The Society also hosts luncheon meetings throughout the year, which feature a variety of guest lecturers.
